I met up with Raynard Beckham at Westchester First Friday to learn all about his truck, Tango Mango Italian Ice. Raynard started Tango Mango in 2010 right here in Los Angeles. He found that in 2010 it was the easiest, quickest, and most cost effective way to start a business. He did not want to get in a lot of debt when starting his business. As I began talking to him about the product he serves, he told me that italian ice originated in Italy and is a 200 year old dessert. Raynard makes Tango Mango's italian ice with fresh fruit, filtered water and raw sugar. He told me that those ingredients are then mixed and whipped together until it becomes the smooth consistency of italian ice. Tango Mango has a very wide variety of flavors that range from Kiwi Strawberry, all the way to chocolate. I tried one of the most popular combinations, lemon and watermelon. The chunks of fruit in the italian ice make it taste very fresh. The lemon flavor was very refreshing and the sweet watermelon gave the tart lemon a nice sweetness. Both flavors are made with a puree. You can find Tango Mango all around Los Angeles. They are often located at Venice Beach, LACMA, and Westchester First Friday. To find where they are located when you are on the go, follow them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can also check out their calendar on their website (www.tangomangoice.com). You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram to get up to date locations on all of your favorite trucks including Tango Mango!
